Last Sunday I had the opportunity to be in the congregation at a church like you are today. It has really been a while since I last sat “down there” instead of standing “up here.” Our family was in San Diego so I decided to look for a church to visit. Before leaving on our trip, I spent about an hour or two on the internet trying to find the “perfect” church, one that would match my vicinity as well as time for driving back to Sacramento. I finally came across a local church called Green Valley Church. So we went, and it was great. A lady immediately noticed us and asked if we were there for the first time. Perhaps because we looked lost and looked Chinese (they were all Americans). We were greeted very warmly by their children director as we dropped of the kids at their children area. It was just wonderful to worship with other Christians knowing that even though we didn’t know each other, we are bonded by the love of Christ.
What made the experience even better was the fact that it was their last Sunday at that particular location. They were getting ready to move to a new location the following week. Their church met in a building similar to ours. I felt so at home. I was able to see how they painted the walls and how they did the classrooms, and how they emptied the building! I couldn’t believe that God was so good to us and allowed us to visit this church, a church on the move just like us. Do you believe that nothing is by coincidence? That God has a plan for your life even in the smallest details? I know I certainly do!
Today pastor Russell is with us and he will talk about your potential and my potential and how we develop them, and I am sure that has a lot to do with God’s plan for your life as well. As you listen, listen with an anticipation that God is going do something beyond what you believe in yourself today, that God is going to fully develop your potential today.
Discussion Questions
1. What is needed to manifest your potential? How are you doing in this area?
2. Why do some Christians never fulfill their potential? How can we avoid falling into this trap?
3. God has given all of us talents and gifts. What are you doing with what God has given you today?
