Church (4) – Embrace, Avoid or Engage? (Libby Vincent, Acts 17:16-23; 32-34)

Welcome to CROLCC, we are so glad you are here worshiping with us.  We have been in our series Church and last week we talked about an issue that all of us would have to face eventually if we have not faced already – how should we respond to people with same sex attraction? Thank you for helping me create a church environment that we can openly talk about this issue. I believe the better informed we are as a church, the better prepared we will be when confronted with this issue.  I know it’s not an easy topic for us to process, but please allow God to process with you with time.  We have to be comfortable with tensions if we are to be a path to transformations, and that’s exactly what the Church needs to be.

Today as we are closing this series on Church I have invited my good friend and teacher from seminary to talk about church and culture.  We all live within cultures, it may be a single culture and it may be multiple cultures.  We may not be able to choose what cultures we live in, but we can choose how we respond to cultures.  So what is it going to be for you?  To embrace, to avoid or to engage in the very culture you have been placed in?  I hope you choose courageously.

Moving Forward

God calls us to engage in culture so that we may impact culture.  Cultivate dialogues around you so that you can have the opportunity to impact culture.

Discussion Questions

1. When you think of engaging the culture, what comes to mind?

2. What do you think is the best way of engaging and impacting culture?  Why?

3. How can you, as a follower of Jesus, and part of the CROLCC family impact the culture around you?
