There are many things to be grateful in life and one of the many things I am very grateful for is being the pastor of this church. I am grateful because not only do I get to fulfill my calling in life, I get to do it with a very real and authentic group of people. I have never understood why we ever have to pretend in church, pretend that we have it all together and not need any help. After all, we are sinners in need of a savior so we should never have to pretend to be someone we are not. We need the grace that’s been extended by our Lord Jesus Christ, and we desperately need the grace that can be extended by our fellow brothers and sisters.
Wouldn’t that be something you want as well? The opportunity to be able to not only worship in rows, but worship in circles with real, authentic people? And did you know that growth, accountability, belonging, and care happen in small groups . . . in circles, not in rows? Experience tells us it’s very easy to stumble away from faith when you are a nameless person sitting in a row on Sunday morning. But it’s almost impossible to stumble away, or to stay away, when you’re in community, doing life with a group of people. So, that’s what we will talk about today, let’s talk about why the need for small group.
Moving Forward
Jesus said that stumbling blocks are bound to come. What can I do today to ensure that when stumbling blocks do come, there are people that would help me back up?
Discussion Questions
1. Read Luke 17:1. Have you ever stumble in your faith journey? What happened, what was the stumbling block?
2. Read Ecc 4:9-10. When you stumbled, was there anyone to help you back up? Who was it?
3.Have you ever watched someone stumbled out of faith and did something about it? What did you do?
4. Spend some time to discuss among your small group how you can be of each other’s help when someone in your group stumbles. Would you be willing to give permission to your small group members to have access to your life when you need it?
